When your periodontal pockets (the spaces between your teeth and gum) becomes too deep, it becomes nearly impossible for you to reach all the way down the bottom of theses pockets to remove the plaque, food debris, bacteria and tartar that accumulates and causes destruction to your teeth, gums and underlying bone.

At Foothills Dental we are able to provide periodontal surgery to reduce the pocket depths and perform a deeper cleaning to debride the deeper part of theses spaces between your gums and teeth.

The objectives of periodontal surgery are to:

1. Gain access to remove the irritants that contribute to periodontal disease such as plaque, calculus, bacteria and their toxins from deep within the periodontal pockets. The surgery also gives us access to remove diseased tissues from the root surfaces and inside bony craters.

2. Reduce the inflammation of your gums.

3. Create an oral environment that is conducive to plaque control and easier for you to maintain good oral hygiene by reducing deep periodontal pockets and correcting abnormal gingival and alveolar bone morphologic characteristics that interfere with plaque control.

You will be very comfortable during the procedure with the freezing that we will give you. At the end of the surgery you will be given a care package with written instruction on how to care for your mouth.

With periodontal pocket reduction surgery we can help you stabilize your periodontal disease and keep your teeth for a much longer period of time.
